hello all,

My stern gland is leaking and after much adjustment it still does. As such I plan on repacking it and I wonder if anybody has experience of doing this.

Specifically what size packing do I need to get?

What type of grease should I use. I have taken the old grease system of and cleaned it completely?

Has anybody done this while the Yacht is still in the water.

Many thanks in advance

Dunny

Not a job to be done whilst in the water. I use a good quality white marine grease and give it a 1/2 turn before I leave the boat.

When the boat is out of  the water check wear on the shaft as this can be the cause of the problem. If this is OK three turns of the same size packing, making sure the cuts do not line up then plenty of grease.

I hope that helps.
